Upgrade your pre-treatment process with this high-performance sediment filtration package, engineered specifically for the removal of sub-micron particles and dissolved metals. Featuring a 8"X 44" (30 Litre) corrosion-resistant FRP vessel and a fully automated Runxin control valve, this system provides a "fit and forget" solution for reducing turbidity and organic fouling in sensitive membrane systems (RO/UF) or industrial process water.

Advanced AFM® Grade 1 Media

Unlike standard silica sand or anthracite, the system is filled with AFM® Grade 1: (0.4 mm - 0.8 mm) - an activated filtration media that achieves what conventional media cannot:

  • Superior Mechanical Filtration: Capable of filtering particles down to 5 micron (95% removal efficiency) , making it ideal for polishing fine suspended solids.
  • Electro-Adsorption: Leveraging its negative surface charge, the media actively adsorbs positively charged particles, including metal hydroxides, flocs, Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), and Arsenic (As) .
  • Organic & Emerging Contaminant Reduction: Proven to adsorb organic substances, hydrocarbons, and microplastics that typically pass through sand filters.
  • Biological Stability: Resists biofouling and prevents "clumping," ensuring consistent backwash efficiency.

System Components & Specifications

  • Vessel: 8"X 44" High-Grade FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) – 30 Litre capacity, suitable for high-flow applications with low backwash velocity requirements (< 30 m/h or 12.3 gpm/ft²).
  • Control Valve: Pre-installed Runxin Auto Backwash Filter Valve, programmed for automatic regular back-washing and rinsing to fluidize the AFM bed and purge captured contaminants.
  • Complete Internal Kit: Includes custom Top & Bottom strainers and a central riser pipe, designed for even water distribution and minimal pressure loss.
  • Installation Ready: All necessary seals, O-rings, and a compatible transformer for the valve's power supply are included. No hidden parts required.

Key Benefits

  • Reduced OPEX: AFM's longevity outlasts sand and requires less frequent media replacement can last up to 20 years.
  • RO Protection: Significantly reduces the SDI (Silt Density Index) to protect downstream membranes from particle fouling.
  • Low Backwash Velocity: Specifically graded for systems where backwash flow rates are limited (below 30 m/h).

Flow Rate Specifications

The flow rates are calculated by mapping Dryden Aqua's professional operating criteria (filtration velocity of 1 to 30 m/h) against the surface area of a 10-inch (\(0.0507 \text{ m}^2\)) vessel:

  • Absolute Minimum Flow Rate: 0.05 m³/hr (50 Liters/hour). This corresponds to the lowest operational velocity boundary (1 m/h).
  • Recommended Ideal Flow Rate: 0.75 – 1.0 m³/hr (750 – 1,000 Liters/hour). Operating at a velocity of 15 to 20 m/h is the sweet spot for maximizing nominal filtration down to 1 micron.
  • Maximum Peak Flow Rate: 1.52 m³/hr (1,520 Liters/hour). This is the maximum upper limit (30 m/h velocity). Exceeding this rate will compromise filtration performance and cause high pressure drops.
  • Required Backwash Flow Rate: 2.0 – 2.5 m³/hr (2,000 – 2,500 Liters/hour). AFM requires a higher backwash velocity of 40 to 50 m/h to achieve proper bed expansion and flush out trapped sediment.

Water pH Tolerance Range

  • Chemical Stability Limit: pH 3.0 to 10.0. According to the manufacturer's technical data sheets AFM is a highly engineered, non-porous activated glass that is completely stable across this spectrum. Strong, concentrated mineral acids or highly caustic environments outside of this window should be avoided to prevent surface alteration.
  • Optimal Performance Target: For standard water treatment, drinking water, or pool configurations, the ideal operating range remains 5.5 to 9.5 to safeguard peripheral control valves and pipe fittings from corrosion or scale.

Daily Demand by Operational Hours

Depending on your specific system design and intended daily runtime, the rated daily demand changes as follows:

  • 24-hour run: 24,000 L/day
  • 20-hour run: 20,000 L/day
  • 16-hour run: 16,000 L/day
  • 12-hour run: 12,000 L/day
  • 10-hour run: 10,000 L/day

Key Factors for AFM Sizing

When finalizing your daily demand calculations for Activated Filter Media (AFM) systems, remember to factor in:

  • Backwash water usage: AFM requires regular backwashing, which consumes water and reduces net production.
  • Peak vs. average demand: Ensure the 1,000 L/hr peak flow rate can handle simultaneous fixture usage.
  • Filtration velocity: Maintain recommended flow velocities (typically 15–30 m/h for AFM) to ensure optimal 1-micron filtration performance.
